Khazna Data Centres announces new 100MW AI facility
Khazna Data Centres has announced the construction of its largest data centre to date, located just north of Dubai, built with the objective not only to grow Khazna’s footprint but to cement the UAE’s position as a global leader in AI innovation. This 100MW facility is specifically designed for AI workloads and will feature 20 data halls, each with 5MW capacity. Electricity for the data centre will be supplied by Etihad Water and Electricity Company, which aims to support sustainable energy practices aligned with the UAE’s digital and economic growth goals. The Biden administration is reportedly considering capping sales of advanced AI chips to certain countries for national security reasons; a move which could affect the Middle East, notable the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The U.S. has already banned exports of Nvidia and AMD’s latest GPUs to some Middle Eastern countries, amid concerns that the UAE might be used as a route for Russia to evade sanctions, especially given its growing ties with China.
