Morocco to host 500MW AI computing hub for EMEA region

A global tech consortium led by South Korea’s Naver, alongside Nvidia, Nexus Core Systems, and Lloyds Capital, has unveiled plans for a massive 500MW AI-powered data centre in Morocco, aimed at serving as a sovereign AI hub for the EMEA region. The facility, which will run on renewable energy, is set to begin construction in Q4 2025, with the first 40MW of Nvidia Blackwell GPU-powered infrastructure going live during the initial phase. Strategically located just 15km from Europe and well-connected via subsea fibre cables, the Morocco site supports the region’s growing focus on data sovereignty, ensuring all data remains within local jurisdictions – a critical factor for privacy and compliance. For the Middle East, this development signals a growing shift in the global AI and data infrastructure landscape, with regional proximity offering potential opportunities for collaboration, connectivity, and influence. As sovereign AI capabilities become a top priority across EMEA, Middle East nations and data centre investors are increasingly well-positioned to integrate with or replicate similar models, especially as demand for AI-native, energy-efficient facilities accelerates across the region…Read more
